How to Split a Word Document in Half Easily

Microsoft Word is one of the most popular word processing tools used for creating, editing, and formatting documents. Sometimes, we need to split a page into two parts—such as when making notes, designing booklets, creating comparison sections, or placing different content on the same page.

There are several ways to divide a page in Word. Below, we’ll explain the four most effective methods step by step.

Method 1: Split a Page Using Columns

Follow the steps below
1. Open Microsoft Word and the document where you want to split the page.

2. Go to Layout tab → Page Setup group → Columns. From the list, select Two.

Method 2: Split a Page Using Tables

We can split a page using a table in both left-right and top-bottom ways.

Split Left and Right with Table:

Follow the steps below
1. Open your Word document.

2. Click on Insert tab Tables group Table option.

3. Now the Table grid will appear, from there select the table with 1 Row × 2 Columns.

4. The table will stretch across the full width of the page.

5. Add text, images, or any content into both columns.

6. If you don’t want table borders, go to Table Design → Borders → No Border.

This way, the page will look neatly divided into left and right halves.

Split Top and Bottom with Table

Follow the steps below
1. Click on Insert tab → Tables group
 Table option.

2.Now the Table grid will appear, from there select the table with 1 Column × 2 Rows.

3. Right-click the table → Table Properties → Row.

4. Set the height of each row to exactly half of the page.

5. Remove borders from Table Design → Borders → No Border.

Now the page will be divided into top and bottom halves.

Method 3: Split a Page Using Text Boxes

Follow the steps below
1. Open your Word document.

2. Click on Insert tab → Text group → Text Box option.

3. Draw a text box on one half of the page. Create another text box for the other half.

4. Adjust both text boxes to the same size and position.

6. Set Shape Fill: No Fill and Shape Outline: No Outline.

Now you can type different content in each box.

Method 4: Split a Page Using Section Breaks

Follow the steps below
1. Open your document in Microsoft Word.

2. Place the cursor where you want to divide the page.

3. Click on Layout tab → Page Setup group → Breaks.

4. Under Section Breaks, select Next Page.
  • Your document will now be split into two sections.
  •  You can apply different formatting (columns, headers/footers, or margins) to each section.
